Same name, different treatment: why depth and shot count decide your HIFU result
If you have ever compared HIFU between clinics and wondered why prices and experiences vary so much, here is the honest answer: the treatment name tells you very little. What matters sits underneath it - the depth the ultrasound reaches, and how much of the area is covered.
Depth decides the job
On the face, we treat at 4.5, 3 and 1.5mm - distinct depths that let focused ultrasound warm the deeper layers where firmness begins and encourage your own collagen, through to work closer to the surface. On the body, the same technology goes deeper - 6 to 13mm - to target stubborn fat and contour rather than lift. Same technology, completely different jobs, decided by depth.
Coverage decides how even the result looks
A session is delivered as individual shots of focused energy placed across the treatment area. Fewer shots means patchier coverage; more shots across the area is what builds a fuller, more even result. This is one reason two treatments with identical names can feel worlds apart. At our Woollahra clinic we treat with the CFU Elife by Biotec Italia, a medical-grade HIFU platform, and deliver four times as many shots as a standard HIFU treatment.
Two questions worth asking anywhere
Before you book a lift-and-firm treatment - with us or anyone else - ask which system will be used, and how the clinician plans to cover your face or body. A considered answer names the system and describes the planned coverage - here, that means the medical-grade CFU Elife, with shot placement planned across each area before treatment begins. A vague one is not a good sign.
Assessed first, treated second
Suitability is assessed before any HIFU treatment here, because the right depths and coverage depend on your skin, not a menu. If skin laxity and loss of firmness is on your mind - a softer jawline, heaviness through the jowls or neck, a more relaxed brow - the simplest first step is a complimentary 15-minute skin assessment with Jade, our founder and senior laser and skin clinician. She will look at your skin in person, explain whether HIFU suits it, and map out how she would treat it - honestly, and without any obligation.
