Pico Laser Pigment Removal
Skin Body Health introduces the latest medical grade laser platform to remove unwanted pigmentation with the new Xlase Plus QSwitch from Biotech Italia.
What It Treats
- Superficial and deep benign pigmented lesions
- Freckles
- Sun spots
- Redness
- Rosacea-related redness
- Broken capillaries
- Tattoo's
- Skin imperfections
- Minimal downtime
- Suited to most skin types
- Quick Treatment time
How It Works
The QS Nd:YAG 1064/532nm laser generates an extremely powerful pulse in very short emission times (nanoseconds) to safely and effectively treat superficial and deep benign pigmented lesions, redness, broken capillaries, tattoo's and skin imperfections even in patients of dark phototype, preserving the surrounding tissues from scarring.
The emitted pulse combines peak power and short pulse duration (9ns) thanks to the innovative OptoH module exclusive to Xlase Plus that uses a newly designed resonator to obtain a high energy and perfectly stable laser beam.
Benefits
- Precision: The short pulses of the laser allow for precise targeting of specific areas of skin, such as pigmentation or tattoo ink, without damaging surrounding tissue.
- Minimal downtime: The QS Nd:YAG treatment typically has minimal downtime and patients can often return to normal activities immediately after treatment.
- Ideal for darker skin types: This revolutionary technology can be used on most skin types, including darker skin tones which have a higher risk of complications with other laser treatments.
- High efficacy: Shown to be highly effective in removing pigmentation, vascular lesions (redness & spider veins), skin imperfections, reducing wrinkles, and improving the appearance of acne scars.
- Fast treatment: Can often be completed in less than 30 minutes.
- Non-invasive: does not require anesthesia.
- High-precision refractive optical elements enable uniform energy distribution, cause less energy scattering and prevent central heat build-up.
The XLASE Plus
The XLASE Plus is a type of laser that uses very short pulses of light to target specific areas of skin. These pulses are measured in nanoseconds, which are one billionth of a second, making them much shorter than the pulses used in traditional lasers. The short duration of the pulses allows the laser to target and break up pigmentation, such as freckles and age spots, without causing significant damage to the surrounding skin.
The specific wavelengths of 1064/532nm are optimal for dark/bright coloured tattoos and solar lentigines. It combines high peak power and short pulse duration (NPP) resulting from the innovative OptoH Q-Switched crystal with unique dual-rod resonator technology, to get stable high energy laser output.
Post treatment care
After the treatment it is quite safe to perform all daily activities. Certain precautions should be taken, these include:
- Avoid any drastic changes in temperature
- Do not keep touching or picking the treated area
- No sunbathing
- No saunas or steam rooms
- No exfoliation

Frequently asked
How many pico laser treatments will I need?
Typically a series of pico laser treatments is recommended, with each session spaced several weeks apart to allow your skin to heal and for results to develop. The exact number of sessions varies from person to person, but it often falls in the range of 3 to 6 treatments.
What is pico laser treatment used for?
Pico (picosecond) laser treatment is a versatile and advanced medical aesthetic procedure primarily used for tattoo removal, skin rejuvenation, the appearance of acne scarring, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, and sun and age spots (solar lentigines).
How long does it take to recover from this treatment?
Treatments are relatively quick, and most people find them comfortable, depending on the size of the area being treated. The skin may feel a mild burning sensation during the procedure and can remain sensitive for up to a few days. The pigment may initially appear white and then turn darker over the next 48 hours, before flaking away over the following 5 to 10 days.
Are there any risks or discomfort?
A slight heat sensation may be experienced during the procedure, however most people find it a relatively comfortable treatment. Any redness or sensitivity usually settles within a few days.
Who should avoid this treatment?
This treatment is suitable for most people. It is not recommended during pregnancy, or for anyone with a pacemaker, an adverse heart condition, epilepsy, an infectious skin condition, or anyone using anti-coagulants. If you are unsure whether it is right for you, please speak with us before booking.
